Hey there, welcome to yet another edition of the seasonal newsletter!

Firstly, I’m sure the uncertainty, anger, and fear surrounding the Russian invasion into Ukraine has caused a lot of stress and frustration to the public, but especially to those with relatives in danger overseas. Any war, no matter what it causes, is extremely detrimental to all parties involved and Youth Leaders of York Region does not condone the violence that has occurred. At this time we stand by all citizens of Ukraine, and around the world that are in similar situations as well, in hopes that the conflict will cease soon.
Although Canada is on the other side of the world, there are still many ways we can help Ukrainian citizens. An extremely beneficial, yet convenient way is through donations. While there are many organizations and foundations that aim to help with everything, ranging from the evacuation effort to delivering aid, here are a few prominent foundations.

The Red Cross is often on the frontline of war, helping those who have been impacted by armed conflicts. The Ukrainian Red Cross has been inside the country, helping with the evacuation effort and providing necessities such as shelter, food, and water for those still remaining in the country.
2. The Canada-Ukraine Foundation

The Canada-Ukraine Foundation delivers support to Ukrainians both within and outside of the country. So far, it has donated over $6 million and continues to provide misplaced or trapped citizens with much needed money and resources.
Both these foundations provide crucial assistance for those impacted by the conflict, and donating even a couple dollars would still contribute to helping these citizens, who didn’t have any choice over how this conflict would, and has, progressed.
On a lighter note, the month of March still saw many successful campaigns, such as our Spring Serenity campaign on mental health, and MMYC’s Race to the Vault, to support the foundation Blue Door. To find out more about these events, click here.
Even though we only mentioned two campaigns, everyone’s hard work and determination has not been lost. All campaigns launched were great successes and we can’t wait to see what April brings!
Finally, this month still has many more volunteer opportunities, ranging from becoming a team member in Agape Tutoring to helping support those running at the Under Armour 2022 Spring Run-Off. More information about these opportunities can be found here.
Through the somewhat turbulent month of March, with the invasion looming over us, the many sparks of joy, through campaigns or volunteering, have helped keep us united and positive during this time. These actions warmed the hearts of us all, and I’m excited to see what this month entails!
