Welcome back to the seasonal newsletter!

Amongst the many events in the month of February, it is most known for Black History month, a national holiday to celebrate and honor the achievements of Black people. Throughout this month many schools and individuals have brought neglected accomplishments by Black people to light, whether that be through posts on social media, or even announcements in school every morning. Figures such as Viola Davis Desmond and Mary Ann Shadd Cary played huge roles in acting against the prior status quo to make Canada the racially integrated country it is today. Even though Black History month is over, we should continue to acknowledge and celebrate the great accomplishments of Black Canadians even when they were working against what was considered right at the time to contribute to this country.

In the month of February there were many successful campaigns including, but are not limited to:
MMJC’s environmental campaign
Project 5K’s Project Valentines
Youth Social Impact’s Feminist panel talk
These events were all a great hit and educated viewers greatly about different issues/topics in society. Learn more about these campaigns here!
In addition to that, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities all around Ontario, and the two featured this month are SPLC Mandarin teachers (12+) and Markham Volunteers’ Snow Heros. More information about both campaigns can be found here.
From incredible acts of kindness through educational campaigns to the many ways you can continue to spread happiness, to the actions that a minority made over hundreds of years ago, February sure was an action filled month!
Let’s see what March has to offer!
