Welcome back to another edition of the YLoYR newsletter!
This past month has been a month of reflection and gratitude as the end of 2022, remembering all the memories made throughout the year. During this month many celebrated holidays and observances such as Hanukkah and Christmas, gathering with family as we reflect on how all of us developed as a person in the past year. Together, let’s look at some of the developments and events hosted by the Youth Leaders of York Region this past year.
Spring Serenity

Back in March, we hosted a virtual mental health event that aimed to help students recharge and refocus during the midst of a pandemic. This event focused on educating the public on various aspects of mental health such as loneliness and anxiety, as well as providing a variety of de-stress strategies, from note-taking techniques to music recommendations. We hope that our series of 23 posts and virtual event will inspire you to implement some time management strategies and take better care of your mental health.
Canada Day

For Canada Day this year, we decided to raise awareness for the unfair and unjust circumstances upon which Canada was born. The work and suffering of Indigenous peoples, especially during the period of Residential schools, should never be forgotten. We hope that our post on Canada Day could educate you about Canada’s past and help recognize and realize the effects and meanings of some of our celebrations on Canada Day.

During the summer applications opened for all of you interested in joining our team! We are so glad to have all of you on board with us this year and your work thus far has been amazing. Fingers crossed for another successful year!

Less than 2 months ago we hosted the Falling into Winter Art Contest, with the theme being the evolution from Fall into Winter, highlighting the beauty of the Earth and the changing seasons that we witness every year. There were many amazing submissions so a huge round of applause to those who won a prize!
